Job Summary

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper Wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of services including: GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling and Mental Health. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) and as such only Aboriginal or Torres Strait people are eligible to apply.

SWAMS plays a crucial role in delivering services to the South West community aiming to reduce the number of Aboriginal children entering care. By providing culturally appropriate services to at-risk families in partnership with Key Assets Australia we are deeply committed to advocating for the safety of Aboriginal children ensuring they remain at home with their families. We are looking for a Case Worker to be a part of our Community Case Management program.

Please note that this is a 6-month Maternity Leave cover position.

The Case workers in the Case Management program will work intensively with referred families building positive relationships to address issues and support families in exiting the service with resolved issues.

About You:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
  • Knowledge of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
  • Basic knowledge of developmental needs of children and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal People and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with communities families children and young people.
  • Strong written skills including report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own time and work resources.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals community groups services and agencies and present and report information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated research analytical and problem-solving skills in relation to case management.

Essential Criteria:

  • Valid and current Western Australian Drivers License
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance
  • Valid Western Australian Working with Children Check

Desirable Criteria:

  • Qualification/Certificate in the area of Education or similar or equivalent experience.
