Job Summary

TheGalvin Middle Schoolis seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as theLibrarian- Long Term Sub for the upcoming school year beginning early February 2026 to mid March 2026. TheLibrarian- Long Term Subwill join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration creativity flexibility and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students families and staff.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth research based learning a love for reading and provide a learning environment for students and staff that will foster a love of inquiry and learning.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operates and supervises the library environment in keeping with national and state guidelines and best practices.
  2. Model the effective and enthusiastic use of books media and other creative materials for information gathering resource collection learning and the pleasure of reading.
  3. Organizes library material equipment and facilities for effective and efficient utilization and circulation.
  4. Plans equips and maintains a welcoming learning environment.
  5. Keeps the collection current within the constraints of budget by purchasing quality print and non-print materials to assure a balanced and current collection of materials free from bias that offer a diversity of viewpoints and genres.
  6. Utilizes the library automation system to track library collection.
  7. Maintains appropriate records of library materials.
  8. Assists students and staff with reading selections with a working knowledge of books and authors
  9. Supports the classroom based curriculum through collection development and refreshes.
  10. Collaborates with educators to integrate the library services research methods and materials into their instructional practices.
  11. Works with educators in planning and implementing projects that require in depth of research and library services.
  12. Completes a periodic inventory review of the library collection.
  13. Provide reference services as needed.
  14. Supports staff to make full use of the services and resources of the library.
  15. Oversees and supervises the use of the library for students during studies or unstructured times during the school day.
  16. Teaches lessons to students and/or on topics such as research literature or related library topics.
  17. Participate in department and school meetings parent/guardian meetings
  18. Keep up to date with developments in subject area teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  19. Collaborate with student services staff; special educators and other related service providers
  20. Performs other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement as assigned by building principal and/or District administration
  21. See CLASSROOM TEACHER job responsibilities if teaching scheduled courses within the school day.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Library (Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university.)
  2. Previous teaching experience preferred
  3. Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks
  4. Expertise in research skills and best practices
  5. Working knowledge of automated library systems
  6. Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies including but not limited to: administrators parents/guardians teachers students other school staff and visitors
  7. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  8. Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
  9. Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  10. Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing presentation and spreadsheet software; and educational software
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable

COMPENSATION:$342.38/day
