JOB SUMMARY
Provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth research based learning a love for reading and provide a learning environment for students and staff that will foster a love of inquiry and learning.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates and supervises the library environment in keeping with national and state guidelines and best practices.
- Model the effective and enthusiastic use of books media and other creative materials for information gathering resource collection learning and the pleasure of reading.
- Organizes library material equipment and facilities for effective and efficient utilization and circulation.
- Plans equips and maintains a welcoming learning environment.
- Keeps the collection current within the constraints of budget by purchasing quality print and non-print materials to assure a balanced and current collection of materials free from bias that offer a diversity of viewpoints and genres.
- Utilizes the library automation system to track library collection.
- Maintains appropriate records of library materials.
- Assists students and staff with reading selections with a working knowledge of books and authors
- Supports the classroom based curriculum through collection development and refreshes.
- Collaborates with educators to integrate the library services research methods and materials into their instructional practices.
- Works with educators in planning and implementing projects that require in depth of research and library services.
- Completes a periodic inventory review of the library collection.
- Provide reference services as needed.
- Supports staff to make full use of the services and resources of the library.
- Oversees and supervises the use of the library for students during studies or unstructured times during the school day.
- Teaches lessons to students and/or on topics such as research literature or related library topics.
- Participate in department and school meetings parent/guardian meetings
- Keep up to date with developments in subject area teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
- Collaborate with student services staff; special educators and other related service providers
- Performs other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement as assigned by building principal and/or District administration

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification in Library (Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university.)
- Previous teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks
- Expertise in research skills and best practices
- Working knowledge of automated library systems
- Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies including but not limited to: administrators parents/guardians teachers students other school staff and visitors
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing presentation and spreadsheet software; and educational software
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable
