The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

This Mechanic II position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County NC.

This is supervisory work or highly skilled work in the general maintenance repair and/or construction of buildings tractor repair and service and plumbing heating/cooling and/or electrical systems.

Work is performed in accordance with maintenance schedules across assigned facilities. Special repair assignments are received by work orders from authorized personnel. Work requires the exercise of initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance repair and/or construction problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done. Work usually involves supervision of employees engaged in journeyman level work involving electrical plumbing masonry heating and air carpentry cabinet making roofing painting heavy equipment service and operation or other trades. However employees may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level.

Correction Enterprises is a self-sustaining division of the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction that operates more than 30 prison-based businesses. The program provides practical job training and skill development for incarcerated individuals preparing them for reentry and employment.
