It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work

This is supervisory work or highly skilled work in the general maintenance repair and/or construction of buildings tractor repair and service and plumbing heating/cooling and/or electrical systems. Work is performed in accordance with maintenance schedules across assigned facilities. Special repair assignments are received by work orders from authorized personnel. Work requires the exercise of initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance repair and/or construction problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done.

Employees may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level. Work also involves supervision of employees engaged in journeyman level work involving:

- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Masonry
- Heating and air
- Carpentry
- Cabinet making
- Roofing
- Painting
- Heavy equipment service and operation

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade: $43 738 - $76542

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Knowledge of the methods practices and materials used in general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.

  • Skill in the use of tools required in various technically complex trades.

  • Ability to plan projects assign tasks guide the work of skilled workers and ensure project deadlines are met.

Necessary Special Qualifications

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades
