We are seeking a highly motivated SEN / ARP Teaching Assistant for our primary school in St Albans. Our Additional Resource Provision (ARP) caters to pupils aged 511 with complex learning needs including autism ADHD SEMH challenges and developmental delays.
The ARP offers a structured supportive and inclusive environment allowing children to access the mainstream curriculum alongside tailored interventions. Staff work collaboratively with therapists external agencies and parents to deliver personalised learning and behaviour support plans ensuring every child can thrive academically socially and emotionally.
The school focuses on developing independence communication and confidence and the ARP provides a safe and nurturing setting where pupils with additional needs can succeed alongside their peers.
The Teaching Assistant will provide one-to-one and small group support for children with complex SEN. You will assist teachers in planning differentiated lessons delivering interventions and implementing behaviour management strategies.
You will support pupils in developing social skills emotional regulation and academic confidence while ensuring that learning is engaging inclusive and accessible.
Your role involves collaborating closely with the SENCo therapists and families to provide consistent support throughout the school day.
Deliver one-to-one and small group support for pupils with complex SEN
Assist in planning and delivering lessons and activities tailored to EHCP targets
Promote independence confidence and self-regulation skills
Implement structured interventions to support social emotional and academic development
Observe document and report pupil progress and incidents
Collaborate with teachers therapists and parents for consistent support
Maintain a safe structured and inclusive learning environment
Apply positive behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches
Support pupils with personal care needs in line with safeguarding policies
Foster trust and engagement with pupils encouraging participation and confidence
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience supporting pupils with autism ADHD or complex needs
Be patient adaptable and resilient
Understand behaviour management and differentiated teaching approaches
Communicate effectively with children parents and multi-agency teams
Hold a TA qualification (desirable)
Understand safeguarding health and safety procedures
SEN and ARP-specific professional development including autism and SEMH strategies
Behaviour management and positive intervention training
Mentoring and support to develop skills in complex SEN support
Opportunities to progress into SEN leadership roles
Collaborative inclusive team environment to share best practices
