This position is temporary part-time competitive pay paid travel around the state of Alaska and free training and educational opportunities including learning the Ahtna language and culture.

Who We Are Seeking: A dedicated and enthusiastic coach for the Native Youth Olympics (NYO) team serving athletes in grades 112. The coach must be a positive role model who demonstrates patience and a passion for teaching traditional games. This role supports each athlete in embracing the cultural teachings and values inherent in these games. Responsibilities include assisting athletes during practices accompanying them to competitions throughout the season (January-May 2026) and transporting athletes to and from practice two to three times per week. Travel throughout the winter and spring months is required to attend competitions across the state of Alaska.

Qualifications Education & Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of relevant coaching experience is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal customer service and leadership skills; including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain cooperative relationships and work successfully as a member of a team.
  • Excellent time management problem-solving and organizational skills with a proven ability to meet sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software.

Certificates and Licenses: A valid Alaska Drivers license and the ability to be insured on CVTCs vehicle insurance policy is a requirement of this position.

Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Background Check: This position requires you to complete and pass a pre-employment state and federal background check and drug screening as a condition of employment.

Hiring Preferences: As allowed in P.L. 93-638 preference for employment will be given to Alaska Native and American Indian peoples. CVTC also applies family and local hiring preferences.
