Job Summary

This is a full-time one (1) year contractposition starting in September 2026.

Compensation & Placement Salary isdetermined by the Havergal Faculty Grid ranging from $72185 $103105 forearly-career faculty and $103457 $135699 for those with 6 years ofexperience. Final placement is based on recognized teaching years degrees andAdditional Qualifications (AQs) with levels increasing for the 2026-2027academic year.

The Position:

The Upper School program at Havergal College is distinguished byopportunities for students to develop and learn in a diverse stimulating and supportive environment. Campusfacilities are well equipped including three (3) gymnasiums a climbing wall a 25-metrepool a fitness centre and severaloutdoor spaces that support physical education that is varied differentiatedand challenging.

Experienced Intermediate/Senior teachers at Havergal College areconfident in curriculum development and demonstrate an approach to teachingthat reflects how girls support all learners with diverse strategies and approaches and arewilling and able to use appropriate solutions to learning challengesexperienced by students. Teachers optimize the use of technology to supportstudent learning. Classes are engaging and dynamic and teachers genuinely enjoy what they do and are approachable available knowledgeable and supportive.

Health & Physical Education candidates should be able to sharetheir experience using the appropriatescope Physical & Health Education and sequence as well as teaching games for understanding approach. A rich sports background and expertise in coaching are preferred as is experience in outdoor education

As members of the Upper Schoolfaculty teachers engage in the work of the Upper School in a collegial andsupportive manner. They demonstrate an understanding of the importance ofparents as partners in their daughters education by maintaining open andcollaborative relationships with parents. As life-long learners theydemonstrate a commitment to actively seeking professional development. Teachersactively participate in the life of the school beyond the classroom.

Specific Accountabilities:

Planning and Preparation ofLearning

  • Understandhow to use knowledge of student developmental stages and current educationalresearch to make appropriate and thoughtful instructional decisions.
  • Workin collaboration with the Upper School Department Head to develop contentknowledge and to deliver a consistent aligned and rigorous program of study.
  • Developeffective long-range unit and lesson plans that demonstrate the principlesof teaching for understanding framework and reflect the Ontario curriculumexpectations.
  • Demonstratean understanding of assessment principles reflective of current assessmentpractices.
  • Workin collaboration with other faculty to develop integrated units of study.
  • Modelbest practices for using technology in the classroom to support the curriculum and students developmental stages.

Setting the Learning Environment

  • Demonstratecompassion acceptance insight and interest for developing students potentialand capacity.
  • Modelthe schools values through actions and words when dealing with studentsparents and other adults in the school.
  • Demonstratean understanding that students learn through active intellectual engagement.
  • Createa trusting learning environment for students by acting consistently fairly openly and honestly and by havingclear expectations for all students.
  • Ensure appropriate behaviour in the classroom and on school property.
  • Createa learning environment where students thinking is visible valued and part oftheir everyday experiences.
  • Create a safe and engaging learning space reflective ofthe developmental needs of students.

Instructional Practices

  • Ensureinstructional practices reflect advanced planning and preparation and the time available.
  • Ensurequestions and instructional strategies promote student thinking and extend their understanding knowledgeand skills.
  • Userelevant pedagogy assessment and evaluation and resources and technology in planning for and responding to the individual needs ofstudents.
  • Ensurestudent learning is appropriately documented and reported.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Upholdthe professional and ethical standards of practice as defined by the OntarioCollege of Teachers.
  • Activelyparticipate in professional growth activities (membership in professionallearning communities completing professional reading setting professionallearning goals).
  • Maintainconsistent professional supportiveand encouraging relationshipswith colleagues.
  • Ensurecompliance with all school policies and practices and maintain all requireddocumentation.
  • Maintainan open line of communication with parents and work with them as partners intheir daughters educational journey.
  • Activelyparticipate in the life of the school outside of the classroom.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevantuniversity qualifications at the Bachelor level in Health and PhysicalEducation (e.g. Bachelor of Kinesiology or equivalent) with Intermediate/Senior qualifications in Health and PhysicalEducation.
  • Certificationfrom the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in Good Standing.
  • Relevantteaching experience within a classroom setting.
  • Aquaticteaching experience is an asset.
  • An HonoursSpecialist is an asset.
  • Acomprehensive understanding of current educational practices in the area ofcurriculum planning and implementation assessment and instructionalstrategies.
  • Understandingof how to apply the current research on girls and learning.
  • Knowledge ofdiffering learning needs and strategies for supporting all kinds of learners.
  • A commitmenttoward continued professional development and growth; and
  • Stronginterpersonal organizational time-management and communication skills.
  • Self-starterable to work in a self-directed manner appropriate to changing needs.
  • A provencommitment to working successfully in collaborative environments.
  • Experience inan independent school is an asset.
