Position Summary
The Part-Time Academic Success Coach will collaborate with stakeholders across campus to contribute to the effectiveness of initiatives related to student success retention and persistence. The primary role of the coach will be to serve as the first connection between the incoming student and the College. The coach will serve as the initial guide to help students begin their academic journey by connecting them with their academic advisor actively promoting academic support services across campus and enhancing awareness and use of these services. Reporting directly to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies the success coach plays a primary role in establishing strategies and objectives for academic support services on campus and cultivating synergies amongst these support services.

The Part-Time Academic Success Coach is a 12-month part-time staff position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as an early contact for new students including transfer students and non-traditional students to facilitate course enrollment and basic needs for successful matriculation to Salem College
  • Serve as a college navigator to various campus resources
  • Collaborates with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies to gather monitor and present data on student success student progress through our early alert system
  • Provides a quick response to various questions to assist students with addressing problems and/or questions regarding academic residential and financial needs and directing students to the appropriate resources
  • Proactively communicating with at-risk students and connecting them with resources such as counseling accessibility services student life career services advising and financial aid.
  • Plan and execute events and workshops that address academic challenges and increase academic success in collaboration with the Writing Center and Tutoring Services
  • Serves as a key member of the campus Early Alert team
  • Serve as a resource for non-traditional students that may have unique needs compared to the rest of the student population
  • Assist with creating a web presence to maximize student access to academic support services


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of full-time experience in a higher education leadership role related to student success and/or academic advising disability services tutoring or other departments closely related to areas of the success coachs responsibilities.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to identify relevant data analyze it and use the data to inform decisions about academic support services
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize amongst competing important priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in relevant field
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization strategies
  • Education or work experience in a health-related field is a plus

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of this position the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend reach lift push and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand walk and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
