Expression of Interest - FNMI Student Support Tutor - After School Program


The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested qualified members of the Continuing Education Bargaining Unit and contract or occasional elementary or secondary teachers for the position of Academic Tutors for First Nations Metis and Inuit Students after school. Grades 1-6 and Grades 7-12.


Job Summary:


TERM OF APPOINTMENT: February 2026 until the first week of June 2026.

DUTIES COMMENCING: February 2026

RATE OF PAY: $45.74 per hour including vacation and statutory holidays

LOCATIONS: West Gate PS & Anderdon PS

ADDITIONAL INFO: The total number of hours for all FNMI Student Support Tutors may not exceed 32 hours each month. There will be a mandatory full day training session as well as three additional two-hour meetings.


Nature & Scope of Position:


  • Individuals will work with students to provide additional academic support in the areas of literacy numeracy and science.
  • Contacting parents/guardians and schedule tutoring times outside of the school day.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair inclusive anti-racist environment for all stakeholders and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
  • Making arrangements for tutoring locations (face-to-face) in a school or a public location such as a local library or virtually (based on parent/guardian request).
  • Communicating student progress with parent/guardian and Teacher Consultant Program Lead.


Qualifications:


  • Ontario Teachers Qualifications (Ontario Teaching Certificate required).

Please note: The selection of the successful candidate will be prioritized as follows:

  • Qualified members of the Continuing Education bargaining unit.
  • Teachers with 5 years contract experience.
  • Teachers with less than 5 years contract teaching experience and occasional teachers.
  • If there are no applicants with less than 5 years contract teaching or occasional teaching experience external candidates will be considered.
