As a Youth Support Volunteer you will assist the Youth Workers to provide a safe after-hours space for young people experiencing homelessness or at the risk of experiencing homelessness (ages 12 - 25 years) in inner-city opportunityFor this role you will need good conversational skills and the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of people including those with different lived experiences abilities and cultures. Key Responsibilities Include:Respond with Psychological First Aid (PFA) as needed for young people accessing the Night Cafe space training providedCommunicate with and engage young people from diverse backgrounds including face-to-face communication internal and external mail communication and telephone callsPass on relevant information from or about young people in line with confidentiality and duty of care requirementsSupporting young people to access service information or link with outreach workers where appropriateDevelop meaningful activities to be undertaken at Night Cafe and facilitate their implementationAbility to learn about issues affecting young people including mental illness homelessness and drug and alcohol abuse and empathise with homeless and at risk young peopleRed Cross will ensure you have training ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the worlds largest humanitarian network. The impactAs a Youth Support Volunteer at the Night Cafe youll help to increase skills of young people to take care of themselves and to support their requirementsFor this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check which will be organised through Red Cross. To submit this application you will need to upload a recent copy of your CV and provide details for two professional role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.
