The Opportunity
The Assistant Director oversees all aspects of programming and advising that support a vibrant and expanding community of 14 social fraternities and sororities. Through a combination of advising training and experiential learning students will be supported to develop leadership skills and abilities to build and maintain strong effective organizations. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director for Student Organizations and is part of a collaborative team of professionals supporting student engagement across a wide range of areas that also include student government student organizations student union civic engagement orientation leadership and campus activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Events: Plan and organize all FSL program activities and support the councils and chapters in planning community-wide events to help foster a sense of community.
- Support and advising: Advise the governing councils currently IFC NPC and Order of Omega as well as the leadership of our campus chapters through regular meetings.
- Policies and compliance: Develop and interpret FSL policies and provide oversight and updates for FSL guiding documents; ensure compliance with university chapter and council policies.
- Leadership development: Provide mentorship and coaching to support professional development in areas including responsible leadership ethical decision-making problem-solving and managing interpersonal relationships. Work with the councils and chapters to develop educational programs for chapter leadership and members.
- Risk management and conduct: Develop and oversee policies and procedures designed to prevent and manage risk within the FSL community including chapter social activity registration and programs for National Hazing Prevention Week. Partner with the Dean of Students office to address conduct violations associated with FSL.
- Recruitment and retention: Provide oversight for community recruitment and intake processes. Work with the councils to oversee chapter expansion processes.
- Assessment and academics: Manage the data collection for both assessment and national compliance reporting. Assess the effectiveness of initiatives and programs and set goals for future program development.
