The Position
Class Code 28396: Sheriffs Records Officer I
Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:
1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:
- Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
- Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
- Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.
Under supervision the Sheriffs Records Officer I performs a wide variety of specialized and/or technical law enforcement support duties within the Sheriffs Department.Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
- Office practices and procedures
- Alpha and numeric filing; indexing and sorting documents
- Basic arithmetic including percentages fractions and decimals
- Correct English usage including grammar punctuation and spelling
- General principles and procedures of recordkeeping
- Methods of identification and property control
- Law enforcement computer and communication systems
Ability to- Follow oral and written procedures and directions
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Read understand interpret and apply law enforcement codes and regulations
- Maintain courteous and cooperative behavior in adverse situations
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Operate office equipment and specialized law enforcement computer systems
- Maintain accurate records
Employment Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
One year of paid full time work experience performing clerical general recordkeeping and/or accounting work
OR
One year of paid full time work experience in a position involving public contact including interpreting/clarifying rules regulations policies or procedures.
Note: The word experience referenced in the minimum qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.
General Qualifications
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid California driver license Class C or higher is required prior to appointment to this class. Failure to maintain a valid license may constitute cause for personnel action. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Requirements:- Stand walk and/or sit for long periods of time.
Working Conditions:- Work various shifts to provide 24-7 coverage including nights weekends and holidays.
- Work in a detention facility and be in direct contact with inmates.
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials including bodily fluids.
- Work in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time.
- Wear and maintain a designated Sheriffs Department uniform.
Criminal History and Background Check:
The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602 Personnel Policies and Procedures B-5 and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidates ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.
The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks credit history checks Social Security Number verification professional license/registration verification military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection obtaining such information the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.Application and Testing Information
