Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Placing Judge is responsible for determining the order of the horses as they cross the finish line by performing the following duties:
Causes the numbers of the leading horses to be flashed on the Tote Board during the running of a race.
Determines the order of finish of each race by consideration of the respective noses of each horse.
Causes the number of the first four horses to cross the finish line to be flashed on the Tote Board.
Determines if a Photo is necessary and if so uses it as an aid to determine the order of finish.
Immediately contacts the Tote Room of the unofficial order of finish.
Causes the official time to be flashed on the Tote Board.
Causes in the event of an inquiry or objection the numbers of the affected horses to flash on the Tote Board.
Contacts the Clerk of Scales Television Graphics and the Horsemens Bookkeeper with the official order of finish.
Notes that each horses rider is wearing the proper colors during the post parade.
Reads and corrects proofs of the following days races.
Assists in the taking of entries scratches declaration and subscriptions and any other duties that may be required to assist in the daily operations of the racing office.
All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED; College experience preferred); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 3-5 years of experience in the racetrack industry.
Excellent verbal mathematics interpersonal communication and writing skills.
Ability to troubleshoot problems offer recommendations decision making ability to make quick accurate decisions independently.
Extensive equine knowledge types of racing and all racing industry requirements.
Must be at least 21 years of age or older and be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License.

Horseshoe Indianapolis is a smoking establishment therefore must be able to work in a smoking environment. Must be able to work in a highly populated fast-paced and noisy environment. Must be able to work in an environment subject to cold and/or hot temperatures rain wind sun dust animals insects etc.
