Class Code 28364: Stock Clerk
Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:
1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:
- Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
- Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
- Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.
Under supervision the Stock Clerk receives inspects records stores issues and delivers supplies and equipment; delivers and collects mail; sorts and processes mail; operates light vehicles.Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Develop and maintain cooperative effective working relationships and customer service skills
- Learn to use computerized inventory control and record keeping systems
- Perform basic mathematical computations related to stockroom work
- Learn to use a variety of parts catalogs and/or electronic cataloging systems
- Learn to operate and service light vehicles or forklifts with either manual or automatic transmission
- Learn to operate various materials handling equipment
- Learn to memorize over 100 route stops and sort mail accordingly
- Learn to understand and use US postal regulations covering special delivery certified insured parcel post and registered mail

General Qualifications
Criminal History and Background Checks:
The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602 Personnel Policies and Procedures B-5 and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidates ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.
The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5 Social Security Number verification professional license/registration verification military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection obtaining such information the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.
Special Access:
Some incumbents in this class must acquire and maintain an airport security badge allowing access to secure County airport locations.
License Requirement:
A valid California Driver License Class C or higher may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Forklift Certification Requirement:
Some positions in this class require the incumbent to obtain and maintain valid forklift and/or materials handling equipment certification(s). Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate certification(s) may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. For positions requiring these certifications incumbents must be at least 18 years of age.
Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Requirements:
Some positions in this class require the incumbent to be able to:
- Lift carry and transport items weighing up to 90 pounds with or without assistance.
- Stoop or turn when lifting items.
- Push up to 65 pounds and pull up to 99 pounds to maneuver loaded wheeled carts and/or pallet jacks with or without assistance.
- Climb up and down stairs
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time on hard surfaces.
- Bend kneel and/or squat for extended periods of time.
Individuals who do not meet these requirements due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Working Conditions:
Some positions in this class require the incumbent to:- Work in and/or deliver supplies to correctional facilities.
- Work inside and/or outside in an area that may not have heating or air conditioning throughout a normal work day.
- Work in and/or deliver supplies to locations that are not equipped with elevators.
- Wear the prescribed safety shoes or boots and other required personal protective equipment.
