The Position
Class Code 27635: Supervising Building Inspector
Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:
1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:
- Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
- Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
- Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.
Supervising Building Inspectors are responsible for supervising building inspectors in a building inspection program such as reviewing construction plans administering contracts and/or inspecting residential commercial industrial buildings and other structures in Sacramento County to determine compliance with applicable local state and national codes.Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
- Techniques and methods of inspection
- Principles and techniques of supervision and training
- Local state and national codes and ordinances applicable in Sacramento County
- Legal procedures regarding local state and national code enforcement in Sacramento County
- Building construction materials methods and practices common to Sacramento County
Ability to- Supervise evaluate and train others
- Read and interpret building and construction plans and specifications
- Maintain effective working relationships with builders contractors architects general public fellow employees and other departments
- Prepare clear and concise reports
Employment Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Either: 1. Three years full-time experience in either the class of Building Inspector I or II in Sacramento County service performing duties which have included reviewing construction plans and inspecting residential commercial and/or industrial buildings to determine compliance with local state and national codes.
Or: 2. Three years full-time experience equivalent to the class of Building Inspector I or II performing duties which have included reviewing construction plans and inspecting residential commercial and/or industrial buildings to determine compliance with local state and national codes.
Note: The word experience referenced in the minimum qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.
Special Requirements
Drivers License:
Some positions may require a valid California Driver License Class C or higher is required prior to appointment to the positions in this class series.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb ladders rafters and scaffolding; crawl into attics and under buildings; climb into and out of ditches and swimming pools under construction; visually trace colored electrical wiring.
Certification Requirements:
All positions in this class series will be required to complete one year of verifiable experience in the appropriate field and within one year thereafter to obtain certification from a recognized state national or international association as determined by the County.
Any person currently and continuously employed by the County as an inspector plans examiner or building official for not less than two years prior to January 1 1996 is exempt from the certification requirements as outlined above.
In addition persons appointed to this class must complete a minimum of 45 hours of continuing education every three years. The County may determine appropriate providers of continuing education such as community colleges or organizations affiliated with code enforcement.
Note: Failure to maintain a valid California Drivers License Class C or higher and failure to meet the required certification requirements may constitute cause for termination from this class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4 or the applicable bargaining unit agreement.
