Description
Basic Function: Repairs and maintains machinery mechanical equipment and buildings as required.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Locates damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machine and measures cuts threads and installs new pipe.
- Lubricates and cleans parts and machines to include performing maintenance on tow motors and other company vehicles.
- Starts devices to test their performance.
- Operates metalworking tools drill press or grinder to make or repair parts.
- Operates welding equipment and cutting torch as required to make repairs on equipment.
- Keeps steam system in good working condition by keeping all leaks repaired and well insulated.
- Cleans work area tools and equipment.
- Performs light electrical repairs.
- Drives pick-up truck pick up parts as required.
- Follows all safety practices and procedures.
- Trouble shooting experience with electric motors electrical wiring hydraulics pneumatics and fabrication
Requirements
Qualifications and Required Skills:
- Previous experience in lumber machinery and maintenance repair are desired
- Maintenance education preferred
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic math skills
- Lifts frequently (40 - 70% of normal work day) material weighing 25 60 lbs. Occasionally (15 - 40%) lifts material weighing over 60 lbs Lifting generally from floor level to shoulder level.
- Proficiency with the use of: hand tools grinders drill presses drills air compressors air driven tools welder front end loaders tow motors and straight trucks are preferred.
- Must reach stoop kneel crouch and crawl.
- Tow motor license is a plus
- Valid Drivers License is required
- Must be able to wear a Respirator
- Comfortable with heights
