ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for coordinating and communicating required materials with assistant operators supervisors inventory control personnel and production coordinators in order to meet daily production needs and maximize productivity.
- Stage material at the appropriate work center and place finished material into proper inventory location.
- Replenish stock materials used at the point of use. Assist with periodic cycle counts.
- Operate industrial lift truck or crane hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Dispose of scrap material.
- Responsible for the loading and unloading of the coils on slitter with the 50000-pound tow motor and/or 30-ton crane for the set-up and operation of the slitting machine used to cut metal coils into strips of specified widths.
- Assist with the selection cleaning and installation of spacers and knives on arbors.
- Assist with the changing of slitter knives spacers and stripper rings as required. Notifies supervision when knives need grinding.
- Cleans inspects and stores knives spacers and stripper rings as needed.
- Works with Operator to ensure the verification of slitting accuracy while minimizing the effects of wasted materials.
- Understanding and knowledge of all materials being cut and the nuances associated.
- Accurately review all daily job travelers with Operator and supervisor in order to maximize efforts when cutting materials.
- Sets up exit hold down roll.
- Band/weld coils on the reel coil car or turnstile as required. Removes pup coils or unfinished coils as required.
- Spot and determine visual defects.
- Accurately complete the necessary paperwork and timesheets to properly manage inventory and job cost.
- Examines completed workpieces for defects such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sorts defective pieces according to types of flaws.
- Keep personal and common work areas clean and organized.
- Recognize and immediately report to operators line lead and/or supervisor all quality issues.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Operator or Supervisor.
EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES:
A High School diploma or equivalent is required. The candidate must have one or more years experience of assistant slitter operation and possess the ability to safely operate overhead cranes forklifts and various hand and power tools. The candidate must also be able to read and understand the standard and metric measures and be able to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide by 10s and 100s without the use of a calculator.
The following experience and abilities are preferred: Knowledge of MRP/ERP Systems Applications and Computer Skills in Microsoft Word (Word Excel and Outlook). The ability to follow various documented instructions and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee engages in repetitive movement tasks that require the employee to stand walk stoop bend reach grasp push and pull grating material of various sizes and weights for long periods of time. The employee will regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Such tasks must be undertaken using proper lifting techniques and may be performed with help from another employee and/or other available resources (e.g. lifting or moving equipment).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the essential duties of this job the employee is regularly working on the production floor. The work environment requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The employee will experience exposure to noise dust heat and cold on a regular basis and is exposed to machine and tool hazards that require care and attention to safety rules and standards.
