Job Summary

Description

Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with SI students supporting their academic development and acclimation to the program and IC.
    1. Attend all math course sessions and meet weekly with the math faculty; ensure full understanding of course syllabus and any online materials including Canvas.
    2. Supervise study hours and facilitate study groups as necessary.
    3. Assist students with course content and academic skills that will result in a positive academic experience at IC (study & exam skills; class engagement timely submission of assignments developing relationships with IC faculty/staff etc.).
    4. Serve as a positive role model using appropriate language exemplifying a positive attitude and modeling behavior expected from students.
    5. Complete tutoring logs weekly for 1:1 and/or group sessions with students.
  2. Ensure understanding of the SI Policies and Procedures and enforce all SI policies and procedures as well as Ithaca community standards.
  3. Work with SI supervising staff on a regular basis (SI Coordinator SI professional staff)
    1. Participate in weekly team meetings and maintain open and timely communication with appropriate SI staff as instructed.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

Peer Tutor Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of strong math ability demonstrated through coursework and other measures
  2. Demonstrated understanding of Summer Institute goals and priorities
  3. Ability to exercise patience and creativity in working with students who may be struggling with content and motivation to complete work while ensuring student accountability and growth
  4. Judgement; ability to establish professional boundaries
  5. Preference for previous experience providing tutoring or other academic support including education courses
  6. OAOA membership strongly preferred and PTs must be returning Ithaca College students

Compensation: $16 per hour 25 hours per week (14 hrs during training week). On-campus housing and meal plans of employment: Monday June 22 2026 through Thursday July 30 2026.
