DescriptionRole and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with SI students supporting their academic development and acclimation to the program and IC.
- Attend all math course sessions and meet weekly with the math faculty; ensure full understanding of course syllabus and any online materials including Canvas.
- Supervise study hours and facilitate study groups as necessary.
- Assist students with course content and academic skills that will result in a positive academic experience at IC (study & exam skills; class engagement timely submission of assignments developing relationships with IC faculty/staff etc.).
- Serve as a positive role model using appropriate language exemplifying a positive attitude and modeling behavior expected from students.
- Complete tutoring logs weekly for 1:1 and/or group sessions with students.
- Ensure understanding of the SI Policies and Procedures and enforce all SI policies and procedures as well as Ithaca community standards.
- Work with SI supervising staff on a regular basis (SI Coordinator SI professional staff)
- Participate in weekly team meetings and maintain open and timely communication with appropriate SI staff as instructed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Peer Tutor Skills and Qualifications:
- Evidence of strong math ability demonstrated through coursework and other measures
- Demonstrated understanding of Summer Institute goals and priorities
- Ability to exercise patience and creativity in working with students who may be struggling with content and motivation to complete work while ensuring student accountability and growth
- Judgement; ability to establish professional boundaries
- Preference for previous experience providing tutoring or other academic support including education courses
- OAOA membership strongly preferred and PTs must be returning Ithaca College students
Compensation: $16 per hour 25 hours per week (14 hrs during training week). On-campus housing and meal plans of employment: Monday June 22 2026 through Thursday July 30 2026.
