Job Summary

At KIPP St. Louis our homebound teacher plays a vital role in ensuring every student continues to learn grow and thrive no matter their circumstances. The Homebound Teacher provides short-term instructional support to students whose behavior academic progress mental health or medical needs require temporary removal from their current school setting as outlined by the students case conference committee IEP team or 504 plan.

Homebound services will be delivered at a mutually agreed-upon location and time between the guardian and the teacher and will occur during standard KIPP St. Louis contract hours. Our goal is to maintain continuity of learning and keep students connected to their school community until they are ready to transition back to their campus. 

Position Type: Full-Time or Part-time Exempt 10 Months Temporary

Start Date: Immediate

On a day-to-day basis you can look forward to the following:

  • Develops high-quality lessons aligned with IEP goals student needs and Missouri State Standards

  • Instructs students using District-approved resources. Instructional methods include: modeling guided practice lecturing cooperative learning and integration of technology.

  • Administers frequent formal and informal assessments to monitor student learning.

  • Analyzes data to make instructional adjustments to improve student learning.

  • Communicates with students parents and schools concerning progress. Detail log of services on timecards 

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations governing homebound services.

  • Conferences with parents/guardians of students enrolled in homebound instruction in efforts to mitigate potential obstacles and/or to resolve concerns.

  • Facilitates a collaborative approach to support student success through programs and services involving family and community engagement wellness/mental health etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Homebound Coordinator

School-Based Staff must have the ability to...

  • Operate a computer and office equipment daily

    • Proficiency in Google Suite

  • Occasional moderate lifting pushing and pulling

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

  • Interpret policy procedures and data

  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written)

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. 

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small group and large group situations.

  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. 

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands/Mental Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Frequently positions self to interact with students

  • Must be able to observe students inside the classroom and school building as well as outside

  • Daily operation of a computer and classroom equipment

  • Occasional moderate lifting

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours of duty

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

  • Interprets policy procedures and data

  • Occasionally endure inclement weather conditions to provide for student safety

Qualifications :

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelors Degree (REQUIRED)

  • Must hold an appropriate Missouri State Teachers certification in Special Education (REQUIRED)

  • Dual licensure (General Education/ Special Education) is preferred but not required

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience

  • Knowledge of reading Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans

  • Working knowledge of Missouri State Standards and Content Connectors
