Description:
The Fishers Community Center is looking for dynamic enthusiastic and service-driven Head Counselors to lead Summer Camps! Head Counselors play a key role in creating unforgettable experiences for campers by fostering a safe engaging and welcoming environment. This leadership position supports the Camp Manager and Assistant Camp Manager in daily operations provides guidance to camp staff and ensures strong communication with families. Head Counselors are vital to building a positive camp culture and strengthening community connections through meaningful camper engagement and exceptional service.
Camps operate Monday - Friday. The 2026 Summer Season runs Monday 6/1/2026 - Friday 7/31/2026. Returning staff will receive a step increase per year of service.
Camp Counselors will need to attend the following mandatory training:
- New Hire Orientation and First Aide/CPR Certification multiple dates will be offered between March and May.
- Camp Training 5/26/26 5/27/26 5/28/26 5/29/26 time/location TBD
Opportunities to continue into our Fall Winter and Spring Break camps may be available for high-performing Camp Counselors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead daily camp operations ensuring smooth transitions and activity execution.
- Conduct morning meetings and afternoon debriefs with counselors to ensure alignment on goals updates and camper needs.
- Supervise support and mentor camp counselors throughout the day.
- Maintain and check camp facilities equipment materials and first aid kits daily to ensure safety and readiness.
- Address medical and emergency needs of campers and staff as necessary following established protocols.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians and assist with camper check-in/out.
- Monitor camper safety behavior and well-being throughout the day.
- Model positive behavior and professionalism for staff and campers.
- Collaborate with the Camp Manager and Assistant Camp Manager to plan and adapt engaging age-appropriate activities.
- Foster an inclusive welcoming environment for all campers.
- Complete daily reports attendance and incident documentation as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- One (1) or more years of experience working with youth in a camp educational or recreational setting.
- Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to diverse groups of campers families and staff- both in person and through written or verbal communication.
- Possess a willingness to learn and use Amilia and Smartsheet.
- Ability to adapt quickly stay organized and manage time effectively in a dynamic camp environment.
- Ability to lead and stay focused in a fast- paced high- energy setting with frequent interruptions and background noise.
- Must have an Adult CPR/AED First Aid certifications or ability to obtain prior to the start of camp. Training will be provided.
- Positive friendly and professional demeanor with a passion for youth development.
