Summer 2026 Co-Op – Preamp Characterization, Electronics Design Engineering

If you enjoy solving hardware problems working in the lab and turning measurements into engineering insight this internship is for you.

As a Preamp Characterization Intern you will help evaluate next-generation analog front-end circuits used in high-performance data systems. You will collaborate with engineers to measure analyze and understand how new silicon behaves in real operating conditions.

This role combines hands-on lab experimentation data analysis and engineering investigation.

What Youll Do

• Characterize next-generation analog front-end circuits using laboratory measurement tools

• Perform electrical measurements such as gain noise bandwidth and linearity

• Develop scripts to automate test setups and collect measurement data

• Analyze results to identify performance trends and anomalies

• Partner with design engineers to help debug circuit behavior and improve performance

• Document results and present insights to engineering teams

This role involves significant hands-on lab work using oscilloscopes spectrum analyzers and network analyzers to evaluate real silicon devices.

Qualifications :

REQUIRED:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelors/Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering or equivalent experience. 
• Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you now or at any point in the future. 
• Coursework in Analog Circuits RF Circuits or Electronic Devices
• Experience using laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes signal generators or spectrum analyzers
• Programming experience in Python or MATLAB
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

Additional Experience (Nice to Have)

• Experience with network analyzers or RF measurement techniques
• Familiarity with low-noise amplifiers (LNA) or analog front-end circuits
• Experience with test automation or measurement scripting
• Exposure to signal integrity or high-speed analog systems

• An employees pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills ability knowledge of the job; (3) performance contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
• The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California Colorado New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California Colorado and New York.  This range may be modified in the future.
• If your position is non-exempt you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws.  You may also be eligible for shift differential pay depending on the shift to which you are assigned.

• You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either WDs Short Term Incentive Plan (STI Plan) or the Sales Incentive Plan (SIP) which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance depending on your role and your performance.
