Job SummaryCertified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) who use meaningful activities to help children and youth participate in what they need and/or want to do in order to promote physical and mental health and therapy addresses the physical cognitive psychosocial and sensory components or schools occupational therapy practitioners focus on academics play and leisure social participation self-care skills (activities of daily living or adaptive skills) and transition/work OTA collaborates with school personnel to identify needs and provides instruction on environment analysis and modification with a goal of reducing barriers to participation.
Primary DutiesUnder the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist the OTA screens performs student reassessment implements the treatment plan and performs interventionUnder the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist the OTA collaborates with the team to identify supports modifications and accommodations that are required to support student successProvides intervention that focuses on the following fundamentals:
Conducting activity and environmental analysis and making recommendations to improve access progress and participation in the school environmentReducing barriers that limit student participation within the school environmentProviding assistive technology to support student successSupporting the needs of students with significant challenges such as helping to determine methods for alternate educational assessment and learningHelping to plan relevant instructional activities for ongoing implementation in the classroomPreparing students for successful transition to post-high school employment or independent livingRequired Experience:
