Job Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer or designee the HRA Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) evaluations for diagnosis and/or treatment of anal and rectal conditions at the clinic site. The HRA Nurse Practitioner will coordinate all of the services necessary for health promotion maintenance rehabilitation and the prevention of disease and disability.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assess and interpret medical and psycho-social histories; perform physical examinations pertinent to the procedure; identify problems; formulate a plan of treatment; provide education and referral (as indicated) and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions prescribed.
- Perform high-resolution anoscopy (HRA) including anal cytology HPV collection and targeted biopsies if indicated
- Order interpret and manage diagnostic tests (e.g. cytology histology imaging studies etc.)
- Administer or coordinates/order treatments of anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions and/or condylomas when indicated. Treatments may include ablation therapy (e.g. hyfrecation) clinician-applied treatments (e.g. trichloroacetic acid) and/or client-applied treatments (e.g. Imiquimod fluorouracil).
- Consult with/or refer clients with abnormal findings such as Anal Cancer when indicated
- Perform or order laboratory tests and interpret the results as part of the HRA procedure. Report communicable diseases in a timely manner to the appropriate health department as per health center protocol.
- Follows established treatment guidelines as indicated by health center protocols
- Conduct health teaching and counseling during the medical encounter as appropriate enabling the client to make informed choices about health and treatment options
- Complete the clients clinical record documentation in a timely manner specific to the applicable policies and procedures of the health center
- Participate in quality improvement/assurance activities
- Participate in continuing medical education activities to enhance professionalism to ensure the quality of care
- Work collaboratively with all members of the health center to build a supportive team
- Apply infection control measures according to health center policies and procedures
- Maintain professionalism and adheres to client confidentiality at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrated competencies using an anoscope Tischler forceps and a colposcope
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with the computer and perform medical procedures as indicated
- Ability to handle phone calls and interact extensively with patients
Education and Experience
Required:
- Degree in Nursing
- Licensed to practice as a CA Nurse Practitioner and currently registered as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
- Certified by ANCC or AANP
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner
- Minimum of two years independently performing High-Resolution Anoscopy testing including treatment as warranted
- Maintains CMEs/CEUs required for licensure
- Maintains CPR and Infection Control certifications
- Maintains DEA registration
Preferred:
- Experience and knowledge of HIV/AIDS primary care
- Experience working with LGBT and Transgender populations
- Experience and knowledge of managing clients with substance abuse
- Previous experience with an electronic health record
- Bilingual in Spanish
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- This position is on-site at DAP Sunrise
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Operates in a clinical setting at times and requires frequent times of sitting standing repetitive motion and talking
- Involves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood body fluids and non-intact skin or tissue specimens is required
