Protection and Controls Engineer Experienced

TOTH is currently seeking candidates for an experienced Protection & Controls Engineer role in our Substation Engineering this position you will design power system protection schemes and provide support for the specification installation commissioning and testing of associated equipment.

As an experienced Protection & Controls Engineer you will:

1. Support or lead scope development cost estimating and schedule planning.
2. Review and guide development of protection philosophies.
3. Lead development of conceptual designs.
4. Perform and oversee short circuit voltage regulation arc flash and coordination studies.
5. Select and specify electrical equipment including power panels ATS generators transformers breakers circuit switchers and switchgear.
6. Review vendor and contractor submittals and bills of material.
7. Lead the development and review of comprehensive electrical drawing packages including Single-line diagrams AC and DC schematics cable schedules bills of material and communication logic panel layout wiring and interconnection diagrams.
8. Interface with the CAD operators for creation of construction drawings.
9. Lead construction support.

You will work with a team to evaluate select and apply standard engineering techniques procedures and solutions to produce a completed design. Work will include multiple projects of moderate to large size for electric utilities throughout the country.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed analysis and calculations to support engineering design utilizing various software tools
• Apply industry codes standards and best practices to various elements of the system protection design
• Utilize quality assurance processes procedures guides and checklists to deliver a quality design
• Evaluate design and cost trade-offs for design alternatives
• Produce material specifications for major equipment
• Visit project sites to review conformance of construction to drawings and specifications
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
• 4 years of experience in the electric utility engineering field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to prioritize work and manage time efficiently
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience in the design of medium or high voltage power systems
• Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards as they relate to power system protection.
