The Recreation Program Supervisor at Zanewood Recreation Center is a great opportunity to be a part of innovate and supervise programs services and events at a renovated Recreation Center and a new Teen Center built on the Rec Center campus. This position is responsible for assessing community program needs developing and implementing programs and services to meet city/department mission and goals enriching program and service offerings and cultivating partnerships through community outreach. This position will manage budget areas including contracts and payments as well as scheduling of facilities. This position is responsible for supervising 3 full-time staff part-time seasonal staff and volunteers.
This position will work independently under the general supervision of the Youth Services Manager of the City of Brooklyn Park to develop innovative programs and events focused on quality partnerships and service to our community.
This position is responsible for planning implementing and supervising a wide variety of community recreation and youth order to maintain a high standard of quality this professional supervises and leads program specialists part time and seasonal staff in the areas of child/teens/youth development youth enrichment and family events.
This professional must be in charge of evaluating and effectiveness of programs scheduling to implement programs for youth teens and families at the Zanewood Recreation Center in partnership with the Recreation and Parks dept the citys Workforce development division school district community education and partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess community recreation program needs research new strategies for meeting those needs and implement programs.
- Plan implement and supervise programs and community activities and events.
- Recruit train and supervise department staff to include training and responding to crisis intervention.
- Supervise program specialists for K- 5 programs and summer camps.
- Supervise teen program specialists and staff to support on site programming that includes direct service relationship building and behavior management.
- Supervise and support Welcome and Registration staff procedures and practices for the facility and campus.
- Determine appropriate programs to enhance department services and make adjustments to existing programs with Program specialists.
- Prepare and monitor program budgets and monitors department expenditures of funding and work with Program staff to maintain budget spending.
- Provide communications information and resources to the community.
- Work directly with communications team to develop marketing materials for program promotion.
- Works directly with external organizations and contractors to offer relevant presentations and services to benefit community and residents.
- Modifies and grows service offerings through outreach practices with diverse populations.
- Work with all Youth Services Division Specialists to deliver a Zanewood Program and service portfolio that meets community needs.
- Partner with Intervention and Outreach Specialists and contractors to maintain a positive safe environment in the Recreation and Teen Center and transform behaviors to positive and productive.
- Supervise the planning directing and implementation of facility events and activities.
- Coordinate facility and maintenance need with Lead Maintenance Worker and Facility Manager and staff.
- Identify and solve customer problems complaints to their satisfaction and within policy guidelines.
- Identify risks in advance analyze them and take steps to reduce liability for city and ensure safety of participants and visitors
- Facilitate work group meetings to improve department productivity and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Education
Bachelors degree in Recreation or related area.
Experience
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in recreation parks or related fields or a combination of the same.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid drivers license
- CPR/AED/First Aid required within six (6) months of hire.
- Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA) required within one (1) year of hire.
- Trauma Informed Care/ACES training required within one (1) year of hire.
- Technology of Participation (TOP) Facilitation Training required within two (2) years of hire.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Desired Qualifications- Three years or more supervisory experience including recruiting hiring training staff and conducting evaluations.
- Certifications in any of the following:
- Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
- Certificate in festival and events management
- CPR/AED/First Aid
- Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA)
- Trauma Informed Care/ACES training
- Technology of Participation (TOP) Facilitation Training
- Previous experience working with diverse populations.
- Fluency in Spanish Hmong Russian Somali Lao or Vietnamese language(s).
- Experience developing and implementing multiple recreation programs.
