The Communications Technician is responsible for installing troubleshooting maintaining and
optimizing communication systems that support utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plants. This role
ensures reliable data flow between field equipment SCADA systems inverters trackers weather
stations and monitoring platforms to maximize plant performance and uptime.
Essential Job Functions
Install configure test and maintain fiber optic systems Ethernet networks wireless radios PLCs
and DAS equipment
Troubleshoot communication failures impacting SCADA or plant operations
Perform fiber testing and interpret OTDR and power meter results
Support commissioning corrective and preventative maintenance activities
Maintain accurate documentation including network diagrams and reports
Comply with QE Solar safety policies and OSHA standards
Travel to multiple project sites as required
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
2 years of communications networking SCADA or renewable energy experience
Fiber optics and TCP/IP networking knowledge
Valid drivers license and ability to pass background and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
Utility-scale solar O&M; experience
Fiber splicing or OTDR certification
Modbus TCP/IP or DNP3 knowledge
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs work at heights walk long distances and work outdoors in extreme weather
conditions.
