The Department of Family Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Educational Evaluation and Analytics to join our team.

TheAssistant Director of Evaluation and Analyticsprovides strategic and operational leadership for program evaluation and learner assessment acrossMEDEX Northwest a multi-campus Physician Assistant program within the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the University of Washington School of Medicine. The position leads cross-campus data and evaluation initiatives that drive continuous program improvement support student learning outcomes and ensure compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards. The Assistant Director serves as a key member of the MEDEX leadership team and partners with faculty and staff to advance a culture of accountability and educational excellence.

This position directly impacts the quality and accountability of MEDEX Northwests educational programs which enroll approximately 240 students annually across five campuses. The role is critical to maintaining ARC-PA accreditation and ensuring the program meets its mission of preparing competent Physician Assistants to serve diverse communities. The Assistant Directors work supports program excellence informs leadership decision-making contributes to educational scholarship and enhances the School of Medicines reputation for innovation in health professions education.

The Assistant Director serves as a key member of the MEDEX leadership team chairs theMEDEX Evaluation Committee and partners with faculty and staff across all MEDEX campuses to advance a culture of continuous improvement and educational excellence. The role ensures that evaluation and assessment practices drive data-informed program decisions support student learning outcomes and maintain compliance withARC-PA accreditation standards. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with program leadership faculty and staff; leads cross-campus data and evaluation initiatives; and contributes to educational scholarship and faculty development efforts.

Supervision

This position reports to the Program Administrator of the MEDEX Programand works in close partnership with theMEDEX Program Directorand Executive Leadership.
The Assistant Director serves asChair of the MEDEX Evaluation Committeeand provides leadership to faculty staff and campus representatives involved in evaluation and assessment activities across all MEDEX campuses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Evaluation Leadership 35%

  • Provide strategic leadership for program evaluation across MEDEX Northwest ensuring alignment with program goals accreditation requirements and best practices in health professions education.
  • Chair the MEDEX Evaluation Committee coordinating evaluation priorities developing annual work plans and producing committee reports.
  • Design and implement comprehensive multi-year evaluation plans incorporating data collection across the student lifecycle and key program functions.
  • Develop and manage evaluation tools and processes for:
    • Admissions process evaluation
    • Didactic phase course and instructional evaluation
    • Clinical phase preceptor site and rotation evaluation
    • Graduate and employer surveys
  • Oversee all aspects of evaluation data collection management analysis and reporting.
  • Produce actionable evaluation reports and interactive dashboards to inform program leadership faculty and staff.
  • Lead program contributions to Department-wide and School-wide evaluation and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts.
  • Partner with leadership and faculty to translate evaluation findings into curriculum improvements operational changes and strategic initiatives.
  • Support MEDEX preparation for ARC-PA accreditation activities including authoring evaluation-related sections of self-studies developing compliance reports and preparing for site visits.

Learner Assessment 25%

  • Collaborate with program leadership and faculty to design implement and continuously improve learner assessment systems aligned with curricular competencies and national standards.
  • Oversee the management and quality assurance of exam item banks ensuring alignment with program competencies and learning objectives.
  • Lead development of assessment tools including:
    • Performance-based assessments (e.g. OSCEs)
    • Rubrics for clinical and didactic performance
    • Clinical preceptor evaluations
    • Student self-assessments and peer evaluations
  • Provide expertise in assessment methodologies including standard setting psychometric analysis and best practices in competency-based education.
  • Manage learner assessment data systems ensuring accurate secure and accessible data to support program reporting and CQI.
  • Collaborate with instructional technology staff to optimize use of Canvas ExamSoft Exxat and related platforms for assessment delivery and analysis.
  • Facilitate faculty development in assessment design implementation and interpretation to promote educational quality and student success.

Data Management & Reporting 20%

  • Lead the design management and continuous improvement of evaluation and assessment data systems across MEDEX.
  • Conduct advanced quantitative and qualitative data analysis to inform program decisions and support innovation.
  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards (e.g. Tableau Power BI Excel) to provide leadership and faculty with real-time access to key evaluation and assessment data.
  • Collaborate with DFM and School of Medicine data leaders to ensure alignment with institutional data governance and reporting standards.
  • Provide consultation and training to faculty and staff on survey design data collection analysis visualization and interpretation.
  • Support integration of evaluation and assessment data into MEDEXs broader continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes.

Collaboration & Leadership 15%

  • Serve as an active member of the MEDEX leadership team contributing to program-wide strategic planning and decision making related to program quality and evaluation.
  • Lead coordination of evaluation and assessment activities across MEDEX campuses (Seattle Tacoma Spokane Anchorage Kona) ensuring consistency of practices and data integrity.
  • Represent MEDEX in Departmental and School-wide evaluation assessment and accreditation initiatives.
  • Mentor faculty and staff engaged in educational research evaluation projects and scholarly work related to program quality.
  • Support faculty and staff in conducting and disseminating scholarly projects related to evaluation assessment and educational quality.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for culturally responsive and inclusive evaluation and assessment practices across the program.

General Responsibilities 5%

  • Participate actively in MEDEX committees including Admissions Curriculum and Student Progress and serve as an ex officio member of other program committees as appropriate.
  • Provide occasional instructional content in areas of expertise (e.g. evaluation methods assessment strategies data literacy).
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in program evaluation learner assessment educational data management and health professions education.
  • Contribute to faculty retreats orientation events and accreditation activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program excellence and alignment with Department and School priorities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters degree (PhD EdD DrPH or equivalent preferred) in education evaluation public health or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in program evaluation educational assessment academic research and data analysis in an academic or health professions education setting.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated expertise in program evaluation educational assessment and/or academic research. Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g. Tableau Power BI Excel). Experience with survey platforms (e.g. Qualtrics REDCap) and educational technologies (Canvas ExamSoft Exxat).
  • Excellent communication collaboration and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and engage faculty staff and leadership in evaluation and assessment work.
  • Commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive evaluation practices.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree (PhD EdD DrPH) in education public health evaluation or related field.
  • Experience inacademic or health professions education particularly withmulti-campus programs.
