The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties: : Seeking a Wetland Science and Outreach Intern to assist staff with developing public facing content forcommunicating project rationale and results of past and present scientific research studies to residents of North Carolina.
Major Task to be Performed: Developing research summaries producing public-facing materials highlighting researchstudy deliverables like Story Maps spatial visualization and webpage management; representing the wetland program atregional events; and participating in field data collection and management efforts as needed.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: Several examples might include generating project summary pages to inform NCresidents of research efforts the wetlands program has conducted; developing ArcGIS Story Map for reporting urban wetlandflood storage project results
Academic Majors Desired: Applied environmentalsciences and communications focused majors like biology ecology environmental science environmental engineeringgeospatial analytics environmental education communications and/or public policy.
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
Knowledge exposure and/or interest in freshwater science and stream and/or wetlandecology; Interest and experience with ESRI software like ArcGIS Pro and AGOL; Interest in urban ecology and water quality;Experience with science communication or environmental education; Conducted literature review and strong writing skills.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
