GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Wyoming Department of Education is seeking a School & Student Safety Accreditation Consultant/COMPS to provide statewide leadership and oversight related to school safety student health behavior and court-ordered and medically necessary student placements. This position works closely with school districts courts agencies and partner organizations to ensure compliance with Wyoming statutes and support safe supportive and legally compliant learning environments for students.

The consultant serves as a statewide resource for prevention initiatives school climate efforts and interagency collaboration while reviewing educational programs provided through the Court-Ordered & Medically Necessary Placement of Students (COMPS) program. The role also supports accreditation-related review of safety health and behavior requirements and provides guidance and technical assistance to districts across Wyoming.

This position requires strong professional judgment effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on complex student-centered issues with statewide impact.

  • Provide statewide leadership and guidance related to school safety student health behavior prevention initiatives and school climate support.
  • Serve as the Wyoming Department of Educations representative in interagency coordination with districts courts agencies and partner organizations.
  • Review and evaluate educational programs provided to students served through the Court-Ordered & Medically Necessary Placement of Students (COMPS) program to ensure statutory compliance.
  • Interpret and apply Wyoming statutes rules and guidance to support district compliance and student safety.
  • Conduct compliance and accreditation-related reviews of safety health and behavior requirements and identify areas requiring corrective action.
  • Provide technical assistance consultation and clear communication to districts and stakeholders on safety prevention and student support requirements.
  • Participate in statewide committees task forces and workgroups related to school safety student health and prevention initiatives.
  • Identify and support access to state and federal grant opportunities related to school safety student health behavior and climate initiatives.
  • Analyze documentation evidence and data to inform guidance monitoring and decision-making.
  • Manage multiple priorities independently while meeting deadlines and statewide responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to applicants with knowledge of Wyoming education statutes and accreditation requirements and experience applying statutory and regulatory requirements. Experience in compliance review technical assistance cross-agency coordination and effective communication with diverse stakeholders is also preferred.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITES:


  • Knowledge of Wyoming education statutes rules and accreditation requirements related to school safety student health behavior and COMPS.
  • Ability to interpret and apply statutory and regulatory requirements and exercise professional judgement in sensitive or high-risk situations.
  • Skill in reviewing educational programs and evidence for compliance and identifying gaps.
  • Skill in providing technical assistance and communicating clearly with districts courts agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-agency work and manager multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrate competencies in accountability collaboration problem-solving organization and follow-through.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Education)

Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Education Program Specialist.
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Education Program Specialist.

  • Typical office environment.

  • FLSA: Exempt
  • Some travel is required.
  • A background check including the taking of fingerprints will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation.
