Position Duties/Responsibilities
The Director of the Math and Science Tutoring Center will be responsible for managing operating and promoting the Math and Science Tutoring Center located in the Center for Learning and Student Success. Additionally the director will be responsible for the following:
- Supervise day-to-day operations in the Math and Science Tutoring Center
- Hire and schedule student math and science tutors to be employed in the center
- Determine creative methods to execute services and support in the Math and Science Tutoring Center
- Host programs within the center and the broader campus to encourage student use of the services offered
- Partner with math and science instructors and professors along with support personnel in other academic areas to encourage academic support for students
- Visit classes and campus programs to promote the center
- Collect and report data required for the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program grant
- Manage the budget allocated for math and science tutors and other center operations
- Participate in professional development activities relating to the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program grant
- Assist with monitor early alerts for first-year students enrolled in math and science courses
- Use online platforms to support math and science course success such as Maxient Suitable and Canvas
- Develop implement and evaluate programs to drive student participation in the center
- Conduct workshops open to the student body to promote the center
- Produce professional development training activities and team building activities for math and science tutors
- Collaborate with other administrative departments on campus to ensure continuity of support and targeted assistance for students
- Represent the Math and Science Tutoring Center at on and off-campus programs as assigned
- Gather and review student participation and satisfaction using reports surveys and external audits
- Effectively communicate with supervision regarding progress and updates
- Communicate and network with counterpart professionals at peer institutions to remain abreast of best practices and recent trends for better operation of the department
- Participate in both local and non-local professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge relative to the position
- Serve as a member of university committees steering groups and advisory councils as assigned
- Provide support and partnership to other areas within the Division of Student Affairs
- Perform other job-related duties as required and assigned by the direct or next-level supervision
Required/Preferred Qualifications
Required
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution
- At least three years of related professional experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective organizational and management skills
- Understanding how to use computer software needed to complete job duties such as Microsoft Office 365 Banner (or other) student information system and a campus portal platform
- Ability to work evenings nights and weekends with prior notice
- Evidence of an energetic student-centered approach to completion of work duties and program development
Preferred
- Relevant masters degree from an accredited institution
- Five years or more of related experience
- Budget management experience
- Experience supervising college students
- Prior supervision experiences of individuals 18 years of age or older
- Prior experience with managing an operation that requires scheduling and assigning appointments
- Experience formulating assessment and generating data/action reports based on findings
- 18 or more graduate level credit hours completed in Mathematics courses
