Description of Work

This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County NC.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $39671.00 - $69426.00

This position will serve as Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Correctional Captain and responsibilities may include management of multiple locations usually a minimum custody facility which is managed within the scope of the larger facility. These facilities house and provides services for 1000 inmates or more. This position provides supervision of subordinate staff and is responsible for conducting shift line-ups making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Conducts inspections of housing units and other buildings grounds and posts to ascertain that officers are alert that discipline is being maintained and that assignments are carried out properly. This position will complete review and maintain time reports duty rosters leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms. This position will account for persons and funds and ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready and identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training for subordinate staff. This position will conduct internal investigations develop operational plans post orders and Standard Operating Procedures.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) / Certification or License Requirements / Physical Requirements:

Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility

Knowledge of facility operations

Knowledge of Prisons policy and procedures

Documented report writing skills

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
