KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Director of Economic Opportunities and Investments this position is responsible for facilitating the implementation of a corporate communications strategy to provide consistent accurate and timely internal and external communication activities to a variety of audiences (residents visitors Council internal staff and other key stakeholders.) This role will work to harmonize all communication efforts of the municipality (media and public relations strategic communications emergency communication public engagement branding etc.) to enhance public awareness and support corporate objectives and Council priorities. This position is responsible for managing and leading the staff in the Communications division.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a university degree in communications public relations marketing or a related field; along with a minimum of 6 years experience in communications and a minimum of 4 years progressive experience supervising or managing staff. The incumbent must hold a certification in IAP2 (or familiarity with IAP2 best practices).
This position requires a strong degree of judgment and discretion and the ability to problem solve and mediate complex situations with multiple stakeholders. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to work with various stakeholders both tactfully and courteously. The incumbent must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the role of local government and the context in which the City operates including the roles of Council and addition the role requires the ability to provide clear and concise communications in both non-emergency and emergency situations. The incumbent must be proficient in MS Office suite Adobe Creative Cloud and social media management tools.
SALARY
The City of Yellowknife offers a starting salary of $145230 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and travel allowances totalling $450 per month a defined benefit pension plan and relocation assistance.
