Having enacted its Financial Administration Law under the authority of the Fiscal Management Act Katzie First Nation is looking for experienced community members and non-members to join its Finance and Audit Committee. The Finance and Audit Committee is a team of people that Council appoints to give them financial advice. The committee provides forward-thinking oversight of financial administration matters of the Nation and supports Council in making good financial decisions for the long term.
The Finance and Audit Committee shall be comprised of two community members and one Council member.
The appointment would be for a 3-year term and the committee member would be expected to commit to preparing for and attending a minimum of 4 committee meetings per year and on-line meeting can be arranged and agreed. Minutes of meeting should be prepared produced & distributed after each meeting. Members must be independent of the Nation (not involved in day-to-day operations or day-to-day financial decisions) must declare any conflict of interest according to policy and are not currently sitting on other committees.
To be eligible to sit on the Finance and Audit Committee you should have financial competency (skill and knowledge to make sound financial decisions) be in good financial standing with the Nation must not have been removed from a board committee or other body for breach of confidentiality within the last five years and know how to demonstrate fairness and integrity.
Preferred qualifications:
Formal accounting and/or business education or relevant experience
Ability to read and understand financial statements plus a minimum of 7 years of business experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset.
Risk Management
Business Analytics/Management Information Systems
Organizational Sustainability
First Nations Administration
Economic Development
The role of the Finance and Committee:
Review and recommend certain items to Council but Council is responsible for making decision.
Items for recommendation include draft annual budgets multi-year financial planning the financial performance of Katzie First Nation as well as quarterly and annual financial statements.
Katzie First Nation Chief and Council invite interested qualified applicants to submit a letter of interest and resume to the Administrative Assistant by email for the application letter and resume by January 30 2026
