We invite online applications from our sworn members for three Constable positions with our Core Engagement and Response Team (CERT). Assignments will be made at various times heading towards mid-2026.


PURPOSE OF POSITION


Reporting tothe Sergeant i/c CERT Unit the CERT officerwillconduct the duties of a patrol officer while utilizing a bicycle for transportation in patrolling streets alleys parks and other areas normally inaccessible to vehicular patrol units. This mode of patrol lends itself to providing a positive and effective police presence at special events and functions organized by community groups and to offering a directed patrol to problem and high crime areas within the downtown CERT patrol area.


Shall in the performance of duties respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Initiate law enforcement action as necessary to maintain public order by patrollingand providing visual police presence primary response to requests for police service within the CERT area patrols being on foot bicycle or automobile
  • Provide a police resource to the downtown neighbourhood and the Emerging Entertainment District
  • Participate in various committees as required
  • Liaise with criminal enforcement units in generating intelligence identifying problem areas and persons in the core
  • Conduct investigations prepare warrants execute warrants targeting illicit drug use and criminal activity in the core
  • Enforce provincial laws and conduct investigations at licensed establishments
  • Provide direction and work in conjunction with CERT Special Constables
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act SO 2019. and other lawful assignments
  • Be accountable to supervision
  • Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned

Knowledge


  • Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure Routine Orders Policy and Procedures practices within the Service as it pertains to duties performed
  • Knowledge of bicycle mechanics and safe bicycle riding practices


Desirable Courses

  • Police Bicycle Patrol Course
  • Criminal Investigation Training


Skills


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of any assigned special vehicles

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make good decisions
  • Be creative in problem solving and a solution-oriented individual
  • Ability to observe retain and prepare clear concise and accurate reports and operate general office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority
  • Must be capable of handling multi-tasks produce work under strict and definitive deadlines
  • Physically capable to perform the tasks of the position
  • All other qualifications the position justifies
