The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting
for an Education Associate 3 located in Fairbanks Alaska!
What you will be doing:
Under general direction from the refuge manager; plan develop coordinate evaluate and conduct interpretation education and other public programs about the natural history of Creamers Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge emphasizing the ecology of mammalian and avian wildlife. Develop and implement strategies to educate all ages of the public about refuge resources and public use opportunities including formal and informal presentations about wildlife habitat principles of wildlife management and multiple uses of Creamers Refuge.

The working conditions you can expect:
The office for this position is located in the Creamers Field farmhouse visitor center. There will be a mix of indoor/outdoor work ranging from developing curriculum to leading field trips for school groups. The position will require the candidate to be personable while interacting with the public school children and work colleagues. The incumbent will be expected to work independently and there is ample opportunity to develop your own educational programs and events.
This position requires field work which can involve exposure to large animals insects inclement weather lifting/carrying 50 pounds or more and possible travel by small aircraft boat or skiff.
The position will require working some evenings and weekends.

General knowledge of principles practices and trends in education; curriculum development and instructional methods; school administrative practices research methods and techniques.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse stakeholder groups; speak and write clearly and effectively; learn operating policies and procedures; convey information orally or in writing to a variety of educators and others in understandable and precise terms.
A strong foundation in wildlife management including knowledge of classification taxonomy population dynamics species distribution habitat requirements life histories reproductive strategies behavioral ecology and conservation practices.
Experience in conservation/environmental education interpretation or related fields with a demonstrated ability to translate natural history biology and ecology concepts into clear concise and understandable information for a variety of audiences.
Energy and enthusiasm for working with large and small groups of people including children and adults.

This position may be in possession of or have access to firearms/ammunition.
(1) Graduation from an accredited college preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
(2) Six years of experience in the broad field of education counseling or administrative services two years of which were at the technical/paraprofessional.
OR
(3) Any combination of the above.
Substitution: In option 2 graduate study may be substituted for the required specialized experience on a year-for-year basis. Undergraduate study preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.
