Description of Work
To plan Organize and present instruction and instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Management of Instructional Time 15 Percent
This position has materials supplies and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instruction activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time-on-task.
Instructional Presentation 25 Percent
This position begins lesson or instructional activity with a review of previous materials: introduces the lesson or instructional activity and specific learning objectives when appropriate; speaks fluently and precisely; presents the lesson or instructional activity using concepts and language understandable to the students; provides relevant examples and demonstrations to illustrate concepts and skills; assigns tasks that student handle with a high rate of success; asks appropriate levels of questions that students handle with a high rate of success; conducts lesson or instructional activity at a brisk pace showing presentations when necessary for student understanding but avoiding slowdowns; make transitions between instructional activities within lessons efficiently and smoothly makes sure that the assignment is clear; summarizes the main point(s) of the lesson at the end of the lesson or instructional activity.
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance - 20 Percent
This position maintains clear firm and reasonable work standards and due dates; circulates during classwork to check all students performance; routinely uses oral written and other work products to check student progress poses questions clearly and one at a time.
Instructional Feedback 15 Percent
This position provides feedback on the correctness or incorrectness of in-class work to encourage student growth; regularly provides prompt feedback on assigned out-of-class work; affirms a correct oral response appropriately and moves on; provides sustaining feedback after an incorrect response or no response by probing repeating the question giving a clue or allowing more time.
Faciliting Instruction 15 Percent
This position has an instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals; uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to develop and revise objectives and/or tasks; maintains accurate records to document student performance; has instructional plan records to document student performance; has instructional plan that matches/aligns objectives learning strategies assessment and student needs at the appropriate level of difficulty; uses available human and material resources to support the instructional programs.
Communicating within the Educational Environment 5 Percent
This position treats all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students co-workers parents and community.
Performing Non- Instructional Duties 5 Percent
This position carries out non-instruction duties as assigned and/or as need is perceived; adheres to established laws policies rules and regulations; follows a plan for professional development and demonstrates evident of growth.

This position will be a main point of contact providing support and instruction in core academic areas to students in pursuit of attaining a high school equivalency diploma. This position is located within the academic school at Foothills Correctional Institution Morganton NC (Burke County).
Reporting to the School Principal the Math Teacher is a core member of the academic team responsible for implementing and monitoring the schools vision mission values and goals. The teacher must be skilled at organizing and delivering math curriculum to groups of students of all ages creating a flexible program and a learning environment that supports each students abilities and personal growth within a close and minimum custody male correctional facility. The teacher will also perform any additional duties assigned by the principal.
The purpose of this position is to teach content focused on improving basic skills in core mathematics areas through individual small group and whole class instruction providing targeted remediation and enrichment as needed. The intent of this position is to deliver direct math instruction to offenders aged 18 to 22 to support their attainment of a high school equivalency diploma.
Job responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
* Designing math lessons and materials using best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned to Common Core College and Career Readiness (CCRS) and NC standards adapting instruction for students with varied maturity and academic levels using verbal and visual teaching methods.
* Providing group and individual instruction informed by formative and summative assessment data to meet individual needs encourage active and appropriate participation reach academic goals and support students transitions within school the correctional system and back to the community.
* Setting and enforcing student behavior standards that enable effective classroom and school participation and align with the schoolwide behavior plan.
* Collaborating with teachers and other school personnel on student caseloads and effective instructional strategies.
This is a full-time permanent and continuing position (40 hours per week) with state benefits. This is a year-round position.
Compensation for all certified educators working for NCDAC in school educator positions is based on the NC Department of Public Instructions Salary Schedule. This schedule is approved annually by the NC General Assembly and sets pay based on the educators years of experience and education level.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons Correction Enterprises the Division of Community Supervision and the Division of Rehabilitation & Reentry.
ABOUT Foothills CI
Foothills Correctional Institution is located in Morganton NC (Burke County). Opened in 1994 Foothills Correctional Institution houses close-custody male offenders primarily between 18 and 25 years of age in 712 single cells. Offenders in close custody are housed at the main institution while the detached Minimum Custody Unit located behind the main unit houses adult minimum custody offenders; close custody is the highest security level a prison in North Carolina can have. The facility offers a wide variety of programs including educational and vocational programs as well as a variety of job assignments; Foothills Correctional is home to one of the prison systems four schools for younger offenders.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements/ E&E
The successful applicant must possess a bachelors degree or above (from an appropriately accredited college) in the teaching area associated with this position and must hold a
current (non-expired) State of North Carolina Professional Educators License (Class Code A M S or D) with certification in the area of mathematics at the middle or high school level or be eligible to obtain an Emergency or Residency teaching license or Provisional Certification in the aforementioned certification area(s). This must be indicated in and attached to your application. Eligibility requirements for the Emergency and Residency Licenses are:
Emergency One-Year License Eligibility: the candidate must
(1) hold a bachelors degree with 18 hours of coursework relevant to the requested licensure area (but has not completed a recognized educator preparation program) and
(2) does not qualify for a Residency License
Residency License Eligibility: the candidate must
(1) hold a bachelors degree from an accredited college/university;
(2) have completed 24 hours of coursework relevant to the requested area of licensure OR passed the content area examination relevant to the requested licensure area that has been approved by the State Board of Education;
(3) be enrolled in a recognized Educator Preparation Program (EPP).
This position is governed under Chapter 115c Elementary and Secondary Education and Chapter 126 of the NC State Human Resources Act.
In addition to the listed knowledge skills and abilities applicants must also demonstrate that the minimum education and experience requirements have been met.
Preference for candidates who can show evidence of:
* Certification in multiple subjects (e.g. math and science).
* Experience with educational practices for atrisk students.
* Experience preparing lessons aligned to College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) Common Core Standards (CCS) and the NC Standard Course of Study to meet student needs.
* Experience teaching math across varied academic performance levels.
* Experience using diverse instructional methods that follow best practices and meet student needs.
* Experience developing implementing and communicating classroom management plans that address diverse behaviors and provide supports for academic and behavioral issues.
* Experience keeping accurate records (attendance grades formative and summative performance assessment results anecdotal notes).
* Experience aggregating disaggregating and interpreting standardized tests and assessment (formative and summative) data effectively.
* Strong oral and written communication with stakeholders and collaborative work with colleagues to support school culture.
* Experience using technology productivity tools and software (including Microsoft Office: Word Excel etc.).
* Flexibility in expectations and instructional plans in a changing environment.
