Job Summary

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is a non-Government Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

The role of the Primary Health Coordinator at SWAMS is to work with your team to ensure the ongoing provision of the highest standards of primary health care to the clients of the service through the provision of quality clinical services health education timely recall system and assistance with access to external health providers. This position is responsible for the provision of timely accessible primary health care services and supporting the patient to access further health services as required. This is a leadership role that will see you working with your team to develop and mentor a group of passionate individuals. Below is just a snapshot of this role:

  • Manage treatment room staff at outreach clinics on a day-to-day basis
  • Work with a team of coordinators to ensure that each team has input into operational plans
  • Manage leave requests and reassign duties to cover when needed
  • Conduct regular staff appraisals
  • Identify staff that require support and assistance
  • Identify workforce needs
  • Take a leadership role in education of staff on issues relevant to the health of clients
  • Ensure effective management of appointments and walk-in patients
  • Provide clinical services to clients as necessary including health checks venipuncture immunisation and other tests
  • Lead and maintain SWAMS infection control program
  • Take a lead role in quality improvement of delivery of client services

About You

Not only will you be someone who enjoys working with a team and bringing them together to ensure a great service is provided to clients you will also have:

  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years post-graduation experience in nursing.
  • At least two years experience in management of a multidisciplinary team in a health care environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and ability to adapt to changing needs

It would also be desirable but not essential to have:

  • Experience in Primary and/or Aboriginal Health
  • Experience managing change within an organisation
  • Venepuncture and current immunisation certification
