SALARY RANGE: $40000.00 - $51500.00

THIS POSITION IS TIME-LIMITED GRANT FUNDED FULL-TIME.
FUNDING FOR THIS POSITION WILL END ON JUNE 30 2026.

The Office of the District Attorney Prosecutorial District 10 seeks a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to the prosecutors in the Domestic Violence Unit of Wake County office.

Purpose:

We are seeking a driven passionate and empathetic person to assist Victims of Domestic Violence and other sensitive offenses.
As a Legal Assistant in the Domestic Violence Unit you will play a vital role in supporting prosecutors and assisting victims and witnesses through the legal process in Wake County Prosecutorial District 10.

Key Responsibilities

Support and Advocacy for Victims and Witnesses

  • Assist victims and witnesses in understanding and navigating the court process.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to ensure victims feel empowered and prepared for court appearances.
  • Connect victims with resources such as counseling and other necessary services.
  • Serve as a point of contact for victims and witnesses maintaining professionalism and empathy during emotionally charged situations.

Legal Support for Prosecution

  • Draft and prepare correspondence legal documents and reports with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Organize and maintain case files including gathering essential information and conducting legal research.
  • Schedule and coordinate court appearances meetings and victim services.
  • Assist prosecutors with administrative tasks and trial preparation as needed.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with law enforcement community organizations and other agencies to ensure seamless support for victims and witnesses.
  • Handle inquiries from victims witnesses and the public with professionalism and tact.

  • Communicate effectively with prosecutors and other team members to facilitate case progress.

Knowledge Of:

  • Court systems legal terminology and procedures.
  • Available community resources to assist victims and witnesses.

Skill In:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint).
  • Typing efficiently and accurately.
  • Managing multi-line telephone systems and providing excellent customer service.

Ability To:

  • Coordinate daily operations and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain professionalism and composure in high-pressure or emotional situations.
  • Build collaborative relationships with prosecutors law enforcement and the public.

Education and Experience

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a District Attorneys Office or similar legal setting.
  • Background in victim advocacy or experience assisting victims and witnesses in a legal or community-based organization.
  • Familiarity with coordinating services across agencies to support victims and witnesses.
