The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications fora non-permanent Caretaker.We are looking for a results-oriented team member who demonstrates professionalism and is committed to providing exemplary public service.

This role will be responsible for ensuring peak cleanliness for a variety of cleaning duties inside and outside Lethbridge Police Service Buildings. Move/assemble furniture monitor contractors light bulb changing minor maintenance work to be completed and any other job-related duties.

As the Caretaker you will:

  • Be able to work effectively with Police Personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively understand verbal and written instructions
  • Be self-directed in a minimal supervisor environment
  • Must have knowledge of approved cleaning techniques chemicals/products and procedures
  • Demonstrate the ability to use cleaning machines and equipment
  • Must have the ability to perform strenuous physical tasks
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of LPS events
  • Perform minor building maintenance/repairs as required
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance requests in the LPS Short-term holding facility as required by the Duty Staff Sergeant(s)
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned by the Facility Coordinator



As the successful candidate you will have:

  • A Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent; supplementary education and experience will also be considered
  • Sound judgement and strong ability to work independently
  • Ability to plan and organize oneself in a self-directed environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Ability and experience using basic hand tools carpet shampooer power scrubber/sweeper etc. would be considered an asset

This non-permanent position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.

Wage:$32.43 per hour2026 rate



Hours: 0 - 40 hours per week (days evenings weekends)

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire) criminal and police records check reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

  2. Selected applicants will be contacted to complete a Personal Disclosure Form and Security Clearance Declaration (applicable to applicants outside of LPS).
  3. Successful applicants will be contacted for a Behavioral Descriptive Interview.
  4. A Security Clearance Check will be conducted (applicable to applicants outside LPS).
  5. Successful completion of a Polygraph Examination Procedure (applicable to applicants outside LPS).
  6. Reference verification of a minimum of three professional references (applicable to applicants outside LPS).
  7. A successful candidate will be selected and offered the position.
  8. All components of the selection process will be administered scored evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.
  9. Duration of the hiring process may take approximately two to three months.

Further LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victims and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our addition we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.

Work Location
