Job Summary

Job Description
40%- Class Attendance and PLUS Group Meetings
  • Attend the lecture classes and required weekly meeting for their assigned PLUS group.
40%- Facilitation of PLUS Sessions
  • Facilitate PLUS sessions assisting students with science concepts in conjunction with the materials covered in the Biology or General and Organic Chemistry lecture classes.
5%- Development and Evaluation of PLUS Materials
  • Participate in developing and evaluating PLUS materials relevant to the improvement of the PLUS program.
5%- Orientation Training and Workshops
  • Attend all the required PLUS orientation training and workshop.
5%- Creating a Positive Learning Environment
  • Establish an environment valuing patience encouragement and education in all the activities associated with the PLUS program.
5%- Administrative Responsibilities
  • Report work hours and complete time-sheets as directed by the program supervisors.
  • Provide feedback on PLUS student attendees based on session performance.
  • Promote the PLUS program via laboratory class visits and in other university events.

  1. Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA in Biology or Chemistry as evidenced in application materials.
  2. Strong written communication skillsas evidenced in application materials.



  1. Prior enrollment and successful completion (grade B or better) to the PLUS course assigned to the student or in higher-level courses in the same discipline.
  2. Previously attended PLUS sessions prior to becoming a peer leader.
  3. Available to attend the lecture classes for at least two consecutive semesters.


Position Overview
The PLUS program has developed and now manages the peer led supplemental discussion sessions in Biology and Chemistry intended to promote interactive activities that reinforce lecture materials in a small group setting. These sessions are specifically designed to bridge gaps between teaching and learning. Work Location will be Haworth Hall Malott Hall or Gray-Little Hall

This position will work under the supervision of the Director of the Peer-Led Undergraduate Supplement (PLUS) program and the Biology/Chemistry Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA).

Core Mission: Provides continued delivery of the Universitys Critical Education Mission

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
