NYPAs Protection and Control engineering group develops design solutions for NYPAs protection and control and associated communication systems performs system disturbance analysis and recommends protective relaying system modifications and/or additions.
This work contributes to NYPAs VISION2030 goals to preserve and enhance the value of hydropower and be the leading transmission developer owner and operator for New York State.
This role will gain hands on exposure to one of Protection and Control groups primary responsibility of developing design packages and setting calculations in accordance with industry and reliability standards such as NERC NPCC and IEEE. This intern will work to develop breaker failure relay replacement packages and set calculations for Massena substation in preparation for an emergent relay replacement or planned capital project in the future. This will allow for better response time for relay replacement packages should the existing obsolete relays fail to better NYS electrical system reliability and dependability.
This work aligns with students pursuing degree in electrical engineering. Knowledge of power systems engineering preferred.
Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 2 - August 7 2026. As an Intern you will receive professional development on-the job experience in the energy industry exposure to executives and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.
