Job Summary:
To assess students intellectual and functional levels developbehavior plans; provideinformation on child development issues to school personnel and parentscollaboratewith community agenciesregardingindividual student plansandproviderecommendations for program development and student placement.
Qualifications:
- South Carolina certification asrequiredfor the position (Level II Psychologist) or eligible forappropriate certification
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Evidence of successful work relationships with colleagues
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may findappropriateand acceptable
Essential Duties:
- Assesses students functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment todeterminestudentsfunctional level and develop recommendations and/or placement.
- Communicates with students and/or parents with teachers and/or other personnel to evaluate situations solve problemsand/or resolve conflicts.
- Consults with teachers parents other personneland/or outside professionals to provide requested information develop plans for servicesand/or make recommendations.
- Activelyparticipatesinschool MTSS teams and processes.
- Coordinates with community agenciesincluding medical judicial social serviceand mental health servicesto determineappropriate treatmentsto meet the needs of specific students.
- Facilitates meetings and processes to ensure curriculum guidelines aremetand/or state mandates are achieved.
- Implementsschool-wideprogram development and program evaluation (e.g. crisis intervention services) to ensure effective programs toassistchildren who experience physical mental socialor emotional difficulties.
- Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students to assist students in modifying such behavior and develop successful interpersonal skills.
- Manages assigned special grants and/or projects (e.g. budget reports goals) to ensure that specifications are achieved.
- Participates in a variety of meetings workshopsand seminarsas assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. quantity reports student activities correspondence internal audits) to document activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
- Presents information (e.g. budget overviews accounting processes distribution formulas) to communicate informationgainfeedbackandensureadherence toestablishedinternal controls.
- Researchesresources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques assessment tools and methods community resources) for thepurposeofdeterminingtheappropriate approachfor addressing students functional goals.
- Supervises interns practicum studentsand others tomonitorperformance providing for professional growth and achievingtheoverallobjectivesoftheschools curriculum.
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities
- Specific skillsrequiredto satisfactorily perform the functions of the jobincludesto ameliorateschool related problems andfacilitatinglearning and development. Provides services to children parents teachers administrators paraprofessional staff community agenciesand the school system through a variety of special unique methods.
- Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the jobincludes:social emotional cognitive physical language and academic forces in childrenthataffect the learning process. The use of advanced intervention prevention and follow-up techniques and processes.
- Specific abilitiesrequiredto satisfactorily perform the functions of the jobinclude:maintaining confidentiality; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team;and working with frequent interruptions.
Working Conditions:
- Generally thejob requires 20% sitting 40% walking and 40% standing.
- Requires fine finger dexterity to use office equipment office technology andmaintainaccuratefiling systems.
- Effectively coordinate a variety of difficult technical administrative functions at a level requiring extensive independent decision-making within established rules policies and procedures
- Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
- May experience constant interruptions inflexible deadlines and changes to normal routines.
