Summary
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Director the Custodian I is responsible for performing routine cleaning and manual labor in and around the County Courthouse Courthouse Annex and other county facilities as assigned. This position requires an individual who is punctual dependable trustworthy willing and capable of working diligently for an eight-hour shift. The Custodian I must demonstrate a cooperative and professional attitude while interacting with Department Heads Elected Officials and county employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:
- Clean and maintain interior areas including sweeping mopping scrubbing floors dusting furniture and cleaning windows.
- Sanitize and maintain restrooms by cleaning sinks wash basins toilets and drinking fountains.
- Collect and dispose of trash recyclables and other waste materials; empty wastebaskets regularly.
- Wax and polish floors to maintain a clean and safe surface.
- Vacuum carpets and perform steam cleaning as needed.
- Assist with moving office equipment and furniture; monitor and restock office supplies.
- Maintain exterior areas including sweeping sidewalks tending to parking areas and caring for grounds and shrubs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Mandatory Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Individuals should possess working knowledge of custodial procedures and practices with one (1) to two (2) years of experience.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS
Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas drivers license to operate county vehicles.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and understand basic instructions short correspondence and memos. Capable of writing clear and concise messages. Able to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group settings with customers clients and colleagues.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers and multiplication and division by tens and hundreds. Capable of applying these operations to measurements involving U.S. currency weight volume and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Demonstrated ability to use common sense to follow simple one- or two-step instructions and handle routine situations with minimal variation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis is an active position that requires regular physical effort. The physical demands outlined below are representative of those an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
