HEALTH ROOM ASSISTANT I

POSITION: Temp. Health Room Assistant I -6.5 hours per day

DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision and direction of the school nurse and principal provides care for ill or injured students and staff members

LOCATION:Valley View Elementary

REPORTS TO:ESD Nurse Supervisor / Director of Student Services

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provides healthcare support and emergency aid care to students and staff
• Consult with school nurses for any serious illness or injury and/or if unable to contact parents.
• Evaluate the need for and secure medical attention by trained personnel (call 911).
• Coordinates transportation home for students as necessary and contacts the SchoolNurse for support.

• Works with the Nurse to facilitate theReturn Testing Program. Assist with testing services for students athletes and ESD staff using COVID-19 RAPID or PCR testing. Report data to the database system.
• Maintain a health room log of all students utilizing health room services including name date time in and out chief complaint service provided and disposition.
• Maintain a communication notebook with the supervising school nurse. Share concerns observations decisions and list students needing school nurse services.
• Monitor health room patterns and attendance; listen to students personal problems as they relate to health. Report/refer students concerns to the appropriate staff person for follow up.
• Distribute information and letters about head bumps head lice chicken pox and immunizations to parents/guardians as directed by the school nurse.
• Complete incident reports when appropriate forward to the secretary obtain follow up information as directed by the school nurse.
• Screen for head lice.
• Practice proper infectious disease control measures including universal precautions.
• Promote proper waste disposal and distribute personal protective equipment (gloves) as needed.
• Ability to interact effectively with students supervisors and staff.
• Works cooperatively in team situations.
• Assures proper lifting of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment.
• Knowledge of computer applications.
• Monitors and maintains immunizations records under the direction of the School Nurse.
• Assists with special needs support under the guidance and supervision of the School Nurse.
• Administers medications and maintains appropriate documentation under the supervision of the School Nurse.
• Assists with hearing and vision screening processes.
• Notifies building principal when there is a suspected child abuse incident.
• Performs general record keeping filing data entry and reporting processes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the School Nurse.
• Ride school bus with students who have emergency medication that need adult support
• Use the resources provided to non-medical personnel for providing safe and legal health care at school.
• Inventory order and maintain health room supplies.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with school nurses staff and parents.
• Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed expectations for acceptable job attendance.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the nurse or principal.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalency
• Previous professional health care related experience (preferred)
• First Aid/CPR Certified or willness to obtain
• Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check.
