POSITION SUMMARY

The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Trainee position is an entry-level role ending 30th November 2026 designed to support and develop skills in providing culturally safe and holistic wellbeing services. This role will work alongside SEWB Mental health and alcohol and other drug services to provide a range of best practice and culturally informed interventions at the SEWB Hub.

This position includes job training mentorship and professional development to support the trainees ability to become a qualified SEWB worker.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management

Contribute to SEWB program development and implementation centers on an evidence based approach within the AOD sector guidelines.

Work collaboratively with other SEWB workers to promote the wellbeing and recovery of clients.

Observe and assist with SEWB intake process client appointments and follow up support under supervision.

Assisting under supervision completing Individual treatment client plans for clients to ensure they are establishing and achieving their goals.

Contribute to Client case reviews and discussions to provide a holistic SEWB approach

Planning and Reporting

Undertake relevant data collection monitor KPIS and submit a monthly statistical report demonstrating progress towards to the leadership team.

Participate in the evaluation of the program with funding bodies and accreditation bodies

Actively participate in formal supervision with your team leader

Report through an escalation process any concerning behaviors that may place a client or their family at unacceptable risk.

RelationshipManagement

Foster and maintain relationships with other agencies to benefit clients and the organisation.

Attend appropriate meetings and forums and participate in education programs to ensure the latest developments research and treatment models are integrated into Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) practice.

Work collaboratively with internal partners to ensure streamlined intake assessment and referral processes.

Corporate Responsibilities

Support values that respect historical and contemporary Aboriginal cultures so that Aboriginal people are recognised as having a special connection with the State.

Complies with relevant Quality Risk and Occupational Health and Safety laws standards safe work practices policies and procedures and attend to all improvements & training opportunities.

Actively monitor and improve the quality and safety of care and services.

Assist with and support any internal or external audit processes.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Communicate consult liase and negotiate with a broad range of people both Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal people to achieve objectives and goals.

Case Management

Provide services within a Case Management Framework

Demonstrate knowledge of current policies legislations program and practices in relation to the programs

Demonstrated skills in computer systems and technology relevant to the position

Maintain local networks to provide formalized referral pathways for clients.

Problem Solving

The ability to develop a strengths-based approach solve problems with team support based on operational knowledge and experience.

The ability to provide information and support to staff and service provider

Respect Cultural Diversity

Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.

Qualification/s:

Willing to obtain a minimum Certificate IV either

-Alcohol and Other Drugs or

-Mental Health.

Other Screening Requirements:

A current Drivers License that allows you to drive in Australia.

A current Employee Working with Children Check card.

A current National Police Check.
