We have a 5-month hybrid (2 weeks per month onsite required) Senior IT Consultant contract in Jackson MS. The anticipated official start date is February 2 2026.
Our client is looking for a skilled professional to provide independent oversight of IT governance compliance and risk management helping leadership make informed decisions while reducing legal regulatory and operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and validate IT practices against internal policies governance frameworks and regulatory requirements
- Provide objective third-party insights to senior leadership and board members
- Identify gaps in compliance with State and Federal laws including data protection and cybersecurity regulations
- Evaluate the effectiveness of IT policies ensuring they are legally sound current and consistently enforced
- Highlight misalignment between documented policies and actual IT practices
- Translate technical findings into clear business and legal implications for executives
- Prioritize remediation efforts based on business legal and compliance risk
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency reduce costs and eliminate outdated or non-compliant systems
- Deliver a clear actionable roadmap covering technical controls policy updates and compliance requirements
- Support coordination across IT Legal Compliance and Risk teams
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of IT Finance and HR systems and operations
- Ability to analyze complex problems and design practical streamlined solutions
- Familiarity with industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of Mississippi public-sector IT environments and practices
- Excellent analytical data analysis and critical thinking capabilities
- Ability to assess business application and legal challenges to identify root causes
- Proven experience developing clear actionable recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Effective presentation and executive-level reporting abilities
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Experience managing expectations scope and deliverables
- Skilled in professional negotiation and conflict resolution
- Experience planning executing and delivering consulting engagements
- Strong time management and prioritization skills across multiple stakeholders or clients
- Ability to identify assess and mitigate project risks
- Experience with proposal development and contract negotiation
- Knowledge of budgeting pricing financial analysis and forecasting
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational decision-making and accountability skills
Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree
- 10 years working for large consulting company
- 10 years delivering consulting or advisory services
- 5 years working for any Mississippi state agency
- 10 years working in an Oversight capacity
- Experience working with the Department of Labor
