Role Overview
The Color Designer III role focuses on the appearance color execution and visual impact of apparel products communications and collateral materials.
This is a senior-level true apparel color design role requiring a strong fashion eye consumer-driven mindset and the ability to work at high speed and scale.
Key Responsibilities
Color Design Execution
- Plan and execute color designs aligned with product brand and market needs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design product marketing development and material consultants to deliver commercially successful color solutions.
- Review and approve color samples to ensure market-ready execution.
- Clearly communicate color changes through final confirmation stages.
- Maintain color calendars timelines and deadlines to ensure on-time product completion.
- Develop line art color design servers GPINs merchandising lines and cutting samples.
- Coordinate materials with material consultants to support product execution.
- Finalize product color details and proactively follow through on execution for each product.
Color Research & Seasonal Color Solutions
- Create innovative retailable color solutions for category or gender-specific product lines.
- Research color design market and lifestyle trends that influence product direction from briefing through sampling.
- Partner with Color Design Managers and Senior Color Designers to propose seasonal color strategies.
- Develop seasonal category-specific color material and graphic direction.
- Lead seasonal color merchandising strategies and storytelling in partnership with category and design leadership.
Consumer & Market Insight
- Demonstrate deep understanding of the consumer and brand positioning within the assigned category or division.
- Apply consumer and cultural insights to improve product performance and appearance.
- Analyze competitor products retail behavior and market color trends.
- Translate consumer insights into effective color solutions.
Presentations & Communication
- Present category-specific color direction and merchandising strategies to internal stakeholders.
- Develop presentation materials that communicate color direction consumer insights and creative strategy.
- Support bi-annual category and divisional color needs for committee preparation.
Skill Development & Leadership
- Demonstrate excellence in color design through advanced knowledge of materials special effects technology tools and presentation.
- Partner with the Color Design Manager to elevate the value of color across the organization.
- Mentor and guide junior designers within the color design team.
- Pursue opportunities to expand business design and color expertise.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with minimum 5 years of directly relevant apparel color design experience.
- Accepted alternatives include Masters degree with 4 years Associate degree with 6 years or High School diploma with 7 years of relevant experience.
- True apparel color design experience is required.
- Color development-only experience will not translate.
- Experience with large global apparel brands is strongly preferred.
- Senior-level capability with a strong fashion and color eye is required.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office tools is mandatory.
- Experience with Vizcom AI is a plus.
- Ability to work onsite Monday Thursday at the Beaverton PHK location is required.
