Summary Statement
This is a project engineer position in the BridgeMaintenance & Construction group of the DelDOT Bridge Section. The positionwill involve developing scope schedules and budgets of bridge preservationrehabilitation and structure maintenance contracts; monitoring multipleconcurrent contracts; coordinating with intra-departmental support sectionsoutside agencies and public outreach as needed; and providing field support forprojects in construction

Essential Functions
- Drafts develops and modifies engineering designs plans and specifications.
- Reviews permit applications blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
- Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
- Plans and conducts field studies surveys research and development projects inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
- Tests or evaluates materials equipment systems and facilities.
- Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
- Reviews analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
- Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
- Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer I (Department of Transportation Only)
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher (or have an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the States infrastructure is safe reliable dependable and sustainable. For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.
The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:
Sign-On Bonus Incentives are based on the position classification:
- $4000 Engineer I
- $5000 Engineer II
- $6000 Engineer III
- $7000 Engineer IV
Incentives are paid three months from the initial date of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with the Engineer I-IV series. Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware
