Contract IoT Engineer (AWS IoT Platform Stabilization & Documentation)

Role Summary
Were looking for a hands-on IoT Engineer with strong AWS experience to take ownership of an existing production IoT platform running on AWS. This platform is already live across multiple customer locations.
This is not a greenfield build. The focus is stabilizing what exists cleaning up technical debt documenting how the platform works and setting internal teams up to support it long-term.

Key Responsibilities
Platform Stabilization and Support
- Own the current AWS-based IoT platform in production
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with data ingestion processing visualization and alerts
- Identify reliability gaps and technical debt and propose practical improvements
Documentation and Knowledge Transfer
- Document device and equipment provisioning workflows
- Document onboarding for IoT Core asset modeling in SiteWise and data flows
- Create clear documentation for Grafana dashboards and data sources
- Produce operational runbooks and architecture diagrams
Provisioning and Configuration Standardization
- Review existing provisioning and deployment workflows
- Standardize configurations across environments
- Recommend and where appropriate implement Infrastructure as Code
Cloud Operations and Security
- Review IAM roles and permissions
- Validate logging monitoring and alerting practices
- Improve platform observability and operational reliability
Stakeholder Collaboration and Handoff
- Work closely with internal engineering and operations teams
- Provide regular progress updates
- Deliver a complete handoff package that enables internal ownership
Required Experience and Skills
Core Requirements
- 5 years of AWS cloud engineering experience
- Hands-on production experience with AWS IoT Core and AWS IoT SiteWise
- Experience supporting live customer-facing platforms
- Strong experience with AWS Lambda using Python or
- Solid understanding of IoT data pipelines and cloud-based architectures
- Strong written documentation and technical communication skills
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with Amazon Managed Grafana
- Background in industrial manufacturing or facilities IoT
- Experience auditing stabilizing or taking over existing platforms
- Familiarity with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
Deliverables and Success Criteria
- Production issues resolved or clearly documented with remediation plans
- Complete provisioning onboarding and operational documentation
- A standardized process for onboarding new devices equipment or sites
- Improved reliability monitoring and alerting
- Internal teams able to support and operate the platform independently
