About the HR Department:
The VMFA Department of Human Resources supports excellence in the VMFA workforce and our broader community. We accomplish this by being knowledgeable approachable and professional in providing quality client services in the areas of payroll employee relations benefits recruitment and retention professional & organizational development compensation human resource administration internships & volunteer opportunities staff engagement and HR data management. We develop and communicate sound policies and procedures that balance the needs of employees and the needs of the museum while ensuring compliance with local state and federal law. We provide strategic leadership and model excellence honesty integrity and teamwork. We deliver our services in support of the museums mission of providing world-renowned art education leadership and service to the Commonwealth of Virginia and the global community.
General Information:
We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Human Resource Client Partner in our HR Client Services group. This position supervises HR Client Services staff and direct their work activities and participates in the delivery of HR solutions to the museum workforce including recruitment orientation employee relations performance management conflict resolution policy interpretation staffing plans and staff development.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the HR Client Services team in delivery of HR solutions including recruitment orientation employee relations performance management conflict resolution policy interpretation staffing plans and staff development.
- Execute effective recruiting and retention strategies for hiring top-quality talent museum-wide.
- Establish and maintain credibility and trust by providing professional advice ensuring confidentiality of information and responding promptly to inquiries.
- Provide solutions to problems that are fair legally sound and effective for museum management. Meet deadlines and actively participate in inter-departmental committees as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with employment-related laws and regulations. Keep abreast of changes in federal and state laws state policies and procedures and determine the impact on the Museum.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to all levels of staff. Express ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Create and uphold HR departmental best practices by working with museum managers to develop an excellent understanding of strategic business initiatives objectives and key deliverables of their departments or functions. This includes working directly with departmental managers to align their departmental strategies and goals with sound human capital management and the VMFA strategic plan.
- Consistently review department practices to identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions; always striving for and actively contributing to a standard of excellence.
At the direction of the Deputy Director of Human Resources this position will also:
- Assist museum departments with business planning and staffing plans for the expansion and renovation project.
- Assist with generating and submitting state-mandated and other applicable reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Exceptional supervisory and leadership skills and experience. Demonstrated ability to organize and supervise the work of staff.
Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including recruitment compensation practices organizational diagnosis employee relations performance management and federal and state respective employment laws.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel administration and related state and federal laws and regulations.
Considerable knowledge of state policy and procedures related to multiple human resources disciplines including recruitment employee relations orientation classification and compensation employee benefits administration training records and transactions.
Excellent computer literacy including extensive experience with Microsoft 365 or related software Abode Acrobat HRIS and project management programs.
Strong strategic analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work on-site.
Additional Considerations
Extensive demonstrably effective supervisory and/or leadership experience.
Several years work experience in HR; working experience with multiple human resource disciplines including recruitment compensation practices organizational diagnosis employee relations performance management and federal and state respective employment laws.
Bachelors degree and/or HR Certification (SHRM HRCI etc) preferred.
